Imitate God and walk in love.
Add Comment Understanding the gospel is only the beginning. Proper understanding leads to proper action. In a church, this means always working on your relationships with one another.
Maturity and Love (Ephesians 4:1-16) 02/19/2012
After proclaiming the glory of the gospel of God, Paul reminds the Ephesians to walk in a manner worthy of their calling. This includes relating relationally to each other, growing in maturity, and building the body of Christ in love.
I took a break from the Ephesians series to talk about spiritual leadership, deacons, and servanthood because we are asking some more men to serve as deacons. I'll be back to Ephesians next week. In 2 Peter 1:1, Peter views himself as a servant first and an apostle second. This example shows us that our titles and tasks are functions of our servant status. We are all servants first.
The Plan (Ephesians 1-3) 02/06/2012
You cannot take a trip without having a plan. Likewise, we cannot know how best to serve God without knowing his plan. In Ephesians 1-3, Paul outlines the plan of God, teaching that it is for our benefit, for the praise of his glory. When we know his plan, we can live his plan.
God's grace is given freely as a gift for his purpose, our fullness, and his glory.
Salvation and God's Glory (Ephesians 2) 01/23/2012
Our history with God begins with our sin, but God's history with us begins with a plan--a plan to redeem us, a plan to overcome hostility, a plan to dwell with us--for his glory.
Prayer and Power: Ephesians 1:15-23 01/18/2012
In this passage, Paul prays for the believers and we can learn from his prayer about God's great love for his people, including his power that is at work for them. This is the same power that was at work in Christ.
Resolve to Mature 01/06/2012
The new year is a good time to make resolutions. What better resolution to make than one involving greater maturity in faith? In Ephesians 4:1-16, Paul points out that the goal of faith is maturity. Churches and individuals ought to set maturity as a goal, using the example of a mature church in Acts 2:42-47 as a guide.
