The Plan (Ephesians 1-3) 02/06/2012
You cannot take a trip without having a plan. Likewise, we cannot know how best to serve God without knowing his plan. In Ephesians 1-3, Paul outlines the plan of God, teaching that it is for our benefit, for the praise of his glory. When we know his plan, we can live his plan.
Add Comment God's grace is given freely as a gift for his purpose, our fullness, and his glory.
Salvation and God's Glory (Ephesians 2) 01/23/2012
Our history with God begins with our sin, but God's history with us begins with a plan--a plan to redeem us, a plan to overcome hostility, a plan to dwell with us--for his glory.
Prayer and Power: Ephesians 1:15-23 01/18/2012
In this passage, Paul prays for the believers and we can learn from his prayer about God's great love for his people, including his power that is at work for them. This is the same power that was at work in Christ.
Resolve to Mature 01/06/2012
The new year is a good time to make resolutions. What better resolution to make than one involving greater maturity in faith? In Ephesians 4:1-16, Paul points out that the goal of faith is maturity. Churches and individuals ought to set maturity as a goal, using the example of a mature church in Acts 2:42-47 as a guide.
Gossip and Godliness 09/12/2011
In Ephesians 4:17-32, Paul teaches about the importance of building people up in our speech rather than tearing them down. Gossip taints us, and it taints the people being gossiped about and gossiped to. You will see more growth when you stop complaining about people (and gossiping about them) and start building them up instead.
The Covenant of Love 03/07/2011
The prophet Malachi preaches to people who are disillusioned, lazy, and even arrogant. They engage in outright disobedience, disregarding the law they claim to love. So God takes them to task. But before doing so, he reminds them that he loves them. In a display of their arrogance or laziness, the people ask, "How have you loved us?" God reminds them of his covenant, and his election of them. Similarly, God love to us is seen in his covenant with us, and in his election of us.
YOU Are the Church 05/10/2010
In this sermon, from Ephesians 2:19-22 and 1 Corinthians 14:26, we'll examine how we often use the word "church" to refer to a building. But this creates passiveness in us. God wants us to be active--he is actively forming and shaping us into his holy temple where he dwells. We need to be active, to participate, and to add value.
